Call for Artists: “Art on the Hill -The Pottstown Art Show”

The 3rd annual open juried event, “Art on the Hill-The Pottstown Art Show” is being presented by the Pottstown Area Artists Guild in collaboration with the Hill School Center for the Arts from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 9, 2013. The opening reception on May 31st from 5 – 9 pm is free, open to the public, and includes music, food, beverages and a 7 pm awards ceremony where the show’s outstanding artists will be recognized with prizes of over $1,000.

Awards are Best of Show ($250), First Place ($200), Second Place ($150), Third Place ($100), 6 Honorable Mention Awards ($50), Hill School/ Curators Choice Awards ($100), and Arthur & David Nuzzo Award for photography ($250). Ellen O. Nelson, The Hill School Boyer Gallery Coordinator and Art Department Chair, will be this year’s Juror.

The show is open to all area artists, both members and non-members. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces of artwork but the 3rdpiece must be $250 or less. All artwork must be for sale. Artwork can be delivered to The Boyer Gallery on Tuesday, May 28, from 2-7 pm and Wednesday, May 29, from 9 am- 12 pm.

New this year: In “Scenes of The Hill,” PAAG will designate a small section of the art show to art painted en plein air at The Hill and art that depicts The Hill School. Artists are also invited to paint en plein air during the week of the art show on The Hill School campus. Call BarbaraTschantre for more information about plein air painting at 610-764-7586.

Cityscape artist to talk at Pottstown Area Artists’ Guild meeting tomorrow

The March meeting of the Pottstown Area Artists’ Guild will be held Tuesday, March 19th, from 7 to 9 PM in the Boyer Gallery of the Hill School’s Center for the Arts located at Beech and Sheridan Streets in Pottstown. (Plug 860 Beech Street into your GPS.)

After a short business meeting, artist Teresa Haag will present her fresh and deliberate painting approach to her “portraits” of cityscapes as she captures the energy of old buildings and streets.  She will talk about her unique approach to paint application as well as her experimentation with various materials and mediums. The meeting is free and open to the public.  You do not have to be an artist to attend.  Those simply having an interest in art are always welcomed.

Art show opens at Hill School tonight; Artists Guild meeting next Tuesday

The Hill School will open a new exhibit in their Boyer Gallery today, Friday, Jan. 11, featuring paintings by Roe Murray of West Chester.  The opening reception will be held this evening  from 7 to 9 p.m. The exhibit will run through February 22. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. The Boyer Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.More information is available at their website.

Roe Murray is a talented painter and art teacher who resides in nearby West Chester, Pa. Ms. Murray received a degree in art education from Moore College of Art, and has completed graduate courses at Tyler School of Art and Arcadia University; she also holds a teaching certification from Immaculata College. She continues to hone her craft by studying with some of the region’s most prominent artists. You can view some of her work at www.roemurray.com.

This coming Tuesday, January 15th at 7 pm, the Pottstown Area Artists Guild will hold its next meeting. Pottstown area clay artist, Lisa Muller will be presenter this month. Lisa does vibrant hand-cast tiles, murals, as well as hand-built, sculptural pieces. PAAG holds monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of every month at The Hill School Center For The Arts at Beech and Sheridan Streets in Pottstown. The Board meeting is at 6:30 pm and the General meeting is at 7 pm and is free and open to the public.

Pottstown Area Artists’ Guild meeting this Tuesday

The November meeting of the Pottstown Area Artists’ Guild will be held Tuesday, November 20th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. It will take place in the Boyer Gallery of The Hill School’s Center for the Arts located at Beech and Sheridan Streets in Pottstown. (See directions here.)

After a short business meeting, artist Loretta Gable Englerth  will be demonstrating her techniques in watercolor and other mediums. Loretta is a self-taught artist, born and raised in Chester County.

The meeting is free and open to the public.  You do not have to be an artist to attend. Those simply having an interest in art are welcome. The PAAG was founded in 1960.
