Girl Scouts collecting school uniforms in Pottstown on behalf of Cluster

A local Pottstown Girl Scout Troop is collecting new or used clothing that can be used as student uniforms in the Pottstown School District, such as white, light blue, or navy polo shirts, turtlenecks, certain sweaters and sweatshirts and navy blue or khaki pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts. All sizes.

All uniforms will be donated to the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities to help children in Pottstown. Victoria Bumstead, who is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Cluster has indicated that uniforms are a huge need for their organization to support children in our community.

Pottstown School District Administration Building at 230 Beech Street

Pottstown YMCA holds YOGA IN THE YARD

Pottstown YMCA at  724 N. Adams Street will hold “Yoga in the Yard” on Tuesday, June 11, from 6-7 pm.

Their staff will guide you in an experience of yoga that connects mind, body & spirit, leaving you feeling peaceful, relaxed and wonderful. Come enjoy the fresh air, positive energy and get a complete mind/body workout.  Wear comfortable clothes and bring water and your mat.

The Pottstown YMCA at 724 North Adams Street will hold a FREE seminar

“GARDEN FIT, Health Benefits of Gardening – Healthy Garden & Healthy You” 

on Monday March 25, from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Learn how playing in the dirt has more health benefits than you can imagine…cardio, strength, creativity, tranquility, nutrition and social.

Pottstown YMCA holding a Back-to-School Swim Meet this Saturday for 6-12 year olds

The Freedom Valley YMCA at Pottstown is hold a Youth Race Back-to-School Swim Meet this Saturday, August 18 at 11 am.

Swim with your age group – all 6-12 year olds are welcome! You need not be on a swim team to participate. 

Everybody swims – Everybody wins! 

Sign up at the Y.

Open to the whole community.

You may sign up the day of the meet.

Cost: $1/swim event.

PEAK holding event this Saturday to celebrate Pottstown’s young children

PEAK (Pottstown Early Action for Kindergarten Readiness) will sponsor a community-wide outreach event for the Month of the Young Child. This year’s event will be held this Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 1-3 pm at the Freedom Valley YMCA at 724 North Adams Street in Pottstown. We will have Smokey the Bear, a petting farm, Pipper the Clown, moon bounce, and free snacks. Community agencies will provide family activities.

 From Peak’s website: “The PEAK initiative is funded through the Pennsylvania-Pre-K Counts, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, Montgomery County Foundation and Children’s Trust Fund and focuses on building partnerships with the early learning programs in the Pottstown community. The goals of PEAK are:

  • Every three and four year old child has access to high quality child care, early childhood education, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.
  • Every parent of young children has access to the high quality skill building and resources needed to prepare them to be their child’s first “teacher” and to prepare their children for success in school.
  • Every child has access to health and wellness services to ensure that they are prepared to maximize their potential in school.”

I’ll be at the YMCA on Saturday afternoon, along with other representatives of MOSAIC Community Land Trust. Stop by our table to learn about Pottstown’s first community garden being built at 423 Chestnut Street and to become a member. Joining the community garden is an affordable, fun way to grow fresh veggies for you and your family; beginner gardeners are welcome. We will offer workshops and help every step of the way. Plots are still available. Come find out what this exciting project is all about! We’ll have a fun project for kids at our table!
